The Regional Housing Task Force’s Latest Report on Affordable Housing

Affordable housing is a basic component of a sustainable, thriving community.  Unfortunately, there is an ongoing affordable housing crisis in Canada, and the role of the Regional Housing Task Force is to look closer into this problem and identify solutions for making housing more affordable and accessible for everyone in our community and province.

The Regional Housing Task Force’s Latest Report on Affordable Housing

Our task force recently spent months looking at the affordable housing issue from a regional lens, looking at housing availability and options throughout Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Meaford, Clearview, and the Town of Blue Mountains. We have included these findings in our latest report, which also covers questions such as:

  • Why do we have an affordable housing problem?
  • What are the consequences when there is a lack of affordable housing?
  • What can municipalities do?
  • Why is the availability of affordable housing so important?

We also included results from a public survey on affordable housing, particularly involving a large number of seniors who could not get on CPP/OAS without considerable assets.

Our goal is to change the conversation around affordable housing in our area and make housing more accessible to everyone from different socioeconomic backgrounds. Housing is an important aspect of any economic development strategy, and we will continue to find and implement solutions to solve the affordable housing crisis in our area.
